Karla Pearce the columnist and author
Karla Pearce is a Canadian visual artist, educator, and writer based in Kamloops, British Columbia. Her work bridges art practice, education, and public writing, focusing on how creativity and attention shape human development.
Working under Karla Pearce Gallery and her Creative Edge column, she explores the relationship between childhood, learning, technology, and culture. Her writing draws on lived experience and creative practice to examine how modern systems influence attention, imagination, and well-being.
Pearce’s work is grounded in education and creative development, with a focus on teaching visual literacy, drawing, painting, and the foundations of artistic thinking.
She is the author of The Creative Edge, a column series examining contemporary issues in education, technology, and childhood development
Her published books include Art of the Kootenays, Anise and the Magic Fish and Kitty Cat Coloring Book.

Creating With Karla Pearce
Karla Pearce has a long history in television, bringing art, creativity and hands-on learning to audiences throughout British Columbia.
Her television series, Creating With Karla Pearce, aired on CFJC-TV in Kamloops, introducing viewers to the creative process through painting, art instruction and conversation. The program was produced as part of CFJC-TV’s local programming, which has been recognized by the CRTC as a general entertainment and human-interest series.
Pearce was also a regular guest on CFJC-TV’s Midday, where she demonstrated her artwork and shared her knowledge of painting and creativity with viewers. Her appearances included live painting demonstrations and instruction, from watercolour landscapes to larger scenic works.
Television became another extension of Pearce’s teaching philosophy: art should not be intimidating or inaccessible. Watching an artist work in real time gives viewers the opportunity to see not only the finished painting, but the decisions, mistakes, discoveries and techniques that happen along the way.
Today, that television experience continues to inform Pearce’s work as an artist, educator and writer.
